Tis the Season

Not the holidays just yet

Tis The Season!

124th Edition

Happy Spiritual Monday

In Australia, the seasons begin on the 1st of the month, meaning that Sunday December 1st marked the first day of our Summer. Apparently this is due to ease and to make the hottest time of the season fall in the middle of it, a meteorological sense, versus the astronomical sense of the solstices and equinoxes. Anyway, happy Summer everyone!

Getting Back Online

I’m writing today because I have had more than a handful of people tell me they got used to my weekly offerings, my musings and keeping up with what I was doing via these letters. I’m flattered that is the case, and I also just felt to sit and write again.

The past couple months have been big for me, my family, life… Our transition to rural living and off grid life have been beautiful and easeful, almost too easeful it would seem… Until we were properly welcomed in! We have had the annoying, but revealing loss of internet/ outside world connection for a week and a half, lawn mower accidents and repairs, electrical outages, rats, water tank and pump issues costing us 40,000 litres of water… all part of the learning.

Amongst this, we have had the daily life occurrences, cultivating our little man, planting and growing herbs and food, meeting the local animals neighbours, developing a new business. Never a dull moment.

Now that we are essentially caught up, let’s properly drop in.

The Year that Flew

Maybe I feel this every year, but I gotta say it blows my mind how quickly the year has flown by. So much has happened, I’ll attempt to make a summary brief.

In January we were tipped off to a potential move to the Northern Rivers of NSW, a rural zone which ticked the boxes of what we wanted to move into as our son grows snd thrives. By March, we had relocated, and in August we moved onto some land.

In May, I gently dipped my toes in teaching and semi came out of retirement and at current I teach for 3 local studios which is a shift from huge classes in booming Sydney.

We celebrated my lady’s 40th turn by spending a beautiful week in the red centre of this great island - Uluru. A Magical journey living way past it’s expectations.

We have celebrated 2 birthdays on this land we currently are the custodians of, sharing the space with friends and family to bless the home.

There have been heat waves, wet weeks, as well as all in between.

We have re-established ourselves in a new land and been working with and through all that entails, from getting acquainted with the landscape, to connecting or reconnecting with community, with the adjustment from being in the centre of town to being 20 minutes at least from everything.

What a year.

Onward and Upward

Recent events have stimulated and motivated me to get back into gear with sharing my life’s work in the most accessible way I can. We have been in a limbic state with all the transitioning occurring, new family, life upheaval and the rest and like any humans, I have noticed a few dark nights of the soul have played out for us, perhaps this is part of the reason for a slowing in writing these letters.

2024 had some elements of being the year of drift, for someone who has been rather cruisey for the bulk of my life. In the past couple months I have been focused on mending all the areas where I have glossed over in the past. Areas like administration of life and business, marketing, sales, those sort of things.

It’s given me some insight into how I have always been pretty good at showing up and focusing on being the talent, doing the job or role to which I am meant to fulfil. In this way, I have avoided having to do a lot of the leg work which creates the infrastructure to allow me the freedom to show up as I do.

I won’t lie, it is incredibly humbling to be in this position recognising how much I have focused on refinement of one aspect of life while essentially neglecting some rather important areas of my life. I will also recognise that I hold myself to impossibly high standards which have likely hindered my offerings due to the inability to achieve perfection, so I find myself now holding a high respect for those who have just been producers and creators with no fucks given for the response.

It’s amazing how a small element of self image has remained as a relic in my being and essentially kept me idling for so many years and now, here we are.

So 2025 is the year that will see me delivering my first editions of a few programs which have been burning in my heart for some time, starting with the offering of a deepening of the yoga practice for the everyday person who doesn’t have intent to teach: Yoga Expansion. This is precious to me, for I have seen how many students have gone on to do Teacher Trainings when, in honesty, they weren’t teachers, they simply didn’t have another way to learn the deeper elements of the practice.

Since 2020, full trainings can be completed online with certification given to those who may have not had more than a day - if that - in person with their trainers. They can then go and teach students in studios around the world.

I come from the world of in person training, internship with my mentors for years and still feeling like there is room to grow. After 15 years being a full time facilitator and teacher, I still wonder if I am the most capable to offer classes, even though I have taught well past 5,000 classes and trained maybe 1500 teachers.

My point is that I don’t feel that everyone needs to be qualified to teach, but everyone could be benefitted by a deeper study of the practice which has evolved over the past few millennia, but has been refined & distilled down to a simplified and sometimes lacking form of the great life practices that once constituted a way of being, not just a few times a week happening.

In Closing

So: I have distilled some of what I believe to be the more appropriate for everyone elements of this practice to give anyone and everyone access to its benefits and a greater implementation in their lives and complementing practices. My vision is for those who “do yoga” to stimulate their own curiosity and appetite for what can truly be a propellant in their lives for the better.

This is not to just define what I am offering, but to share that life its short, and as Wayne Dyer once eloquently stated: “Don’t die with your music still in you.”

Yoga is just the beginning, but the upcoming year will be powerful in many ways, and I look forward to sharing it with you and all who join in.

And so it is, with love. Thanks for reading.
