120th Edition
Happy Spiritual Monday
The full moon will be gracing us at 4:25am tomorrow (for East Coast Australia), and the rising this evening will be nearly full. This means it has been 4 weeks since my last edition, and I’ll catch you up today, here!
The Rock
When I last wrote to you, we were transient living, moving from a few places on hold until our countryside property became vacant to move into. As the previous edition landed in your inbox, we were packing for a journey to the beautiful Red Center of this land - Uluru. Foreigners would likely know it by the name Ayers Rock as it had been Westernly named some 100+ years ago.
The rock itself is…. Massive. There is a rich cultural tapestry revolving around it, and I won’t go into the depth here as I am a novice, suffice it to say that if you don’t feel a profound connection to the greater spiritual nature of life when you are there, you may have too many prescription drugs coursing through your body, or just no soul!
The majesty, the awe is truly insane. A giant sandstone behemoth in the middle of the desert, the beautiful red jewel which appears in the ancient lore of many spiritual texts and disciplines, not just the dreamtime and stories of the indigenous Australian peoples.
Anyway. We went there for my lady’s 40th birthday, and the 5 days we spent were magic We hiked, cycled, helicoptered and micro dosed our way through truly spectacular, surreal scenery and space. And the real gem was Kata Tjuṯa, a conglomerate giant Stonehenge-esque setup with absolutely breathtaking views, landscapes and stunning hikes.
It was an incredible trip, and my little man was a champion, walking 5km of our biggest 9km hike on my love’s birthday. Happy 40th turn around the sun, My Love!
Down South
Upon returning from the centre, we immediately drove 14 hrs south to the Brogo/ Coolagoolite area of NSW south coast. This area is stunning, raw, magical. My lady was sitting with some powerful women for a ceremony which I was not a part of, and our little man took a holiday with Auntie and Cousins in Sydney so we could have some space.
I stayed with a couple friends and the time together consisted of planting/ replanting trees, clearing land for a wilderness camp, sitting under the beautiful stars and a couple of well timed medicine journeys with good brothers. All while sitting around the fire, where it all makes sense.
I love the South, and we felt winter for the first time this winter! In the north end of the state, where we have been living since March, it never really gets that cold. As I type this, I am sitting next to the fire… but I could easily get away without it. I haven’t even worn a wetsuit since… who knows!
Anyway, the south coast was a beautiful mission, albeit a ton of driving.
The Return
We left the South coast on Sunday afternoon, burned to Sydney to see our little man for the night, then awoke early Monday morning to do the final leg back up north to land in our new home. This would be a 12.5 hour journey, super fun with a toddler…
It was all worth it though, for when we finally parked the car, we camped out in our new home, a beautiful cabin-esque set just outside of Mullumbimby, the biggest little town in Aus. We all cuddled on our camping queen mattress, and snuggled through our first cozy night in the bush. It was quiet, beautiful perfect.
The following day, I had the help of a few good brothers to pack a truck with our stuff and move it all from about 10 minutes away into our new landing pad. It was a big day, a mission to be sure, especially after the two weeks prior, but we got it all in, and settled into our own beds for the first time in months.
The following day, Mama had to work, so me and the cub hung out at the house while I tried to unpack. It was a sun-sational day, and we satisfied part of the dream for this land - spending the whole day outside, naked, getting sun drenched in the middle of winter! It was amazing and Koa settled right in.
The week following was mostly navigating our way around boxes and sneezing through all the dust, but we finally got a day, Saturday, to tuck in and make the house a home.
Home
We haven’t felt like we have lived in a home for some time. Myself, I have been in apartments for the better part of the past 15 years, apart from a few years in a cool bohemian house in Manly, and a wonderful duplex on the other end of the beach, all the places I have lived have been units - beautiful and awesome, but nonetheless, units.
We have wanted space, ground level, earth for ourselves and especially for Koa as he grows up. We have achieved this. The land we now call home is available to us for the next 4 or 5 years, some formative years for the young fella, and we are so grateful to be here. It is quiet, sunny, removed from the world, but with sweeping vistas and ocean views. We are off the grid, relying solely on the sun and the rain for our survival. If we don’t leave the house, we likely wouldn’t see another soul.
Every morning, a huge gang of Yellow Tailed Black Cockatoos greets each other on the tres in our yard, orchestrating the most beautiful and melodious morning bell alarm calls. We hear the birds, the weather, the wind. We are amongst the animals and the land, and it feels fantastic.
We have finally landed home, and while nothing is forever, we feel settled here and grateful to be living in this way - simply.
Already, now 2 weeks in, I feel a shift in myself, and my family. Our boy has taken to it like a duck to water. He is amused but the space to run and play, he has picked up his first leech and jumping ant bite, and taken both in stride. He is smiling, laughing, joyful and it melts my heart.
We have slowed down, and it feels necessary. More will unfold, but this is just the catch up for now.
I’d like to close by saying thank you to all subscribers are for being patient while I took a brief hiatus. While I know your lives do not revolve around this letter, I also know that regularity is a nice thing for some of us these days, and I just need a little break.
And I wrote this late based on the message from my mother in California who said she missed my musings, so mom if you’re reading this - thanks, and I love you dearly.
Have a beautiful full moon everyone.
And so it is, with love.
